The Palm Islands – Palm Jumeirah, Palm Jebel Ali and Palm Deira - are three artificial islands built on the coast of Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The original plan of these man-made islands was to solve the beach shortage of this populous emirate by adding hundreds of kilometers of beaches.
The Palm Jumeirah is one of the three islands of this prestigious project. As the name already suggests, Palm Jumeirah is shaped in the form of a palm tree and it consists of a trunk, a crown with 16 fronds and a surrounding island which forms an 11 kilometer long breakwater.
Palm Jumeirah is the residential and retreat island of the three and was officially opened in November 2008. More than 20,000 visitors a day will be transported from the mainland to the island via the main arterial road of Palm Jumeirah, a 1.4 km, six-lane highway.
To guarantee fluent and safe traffic on this highway, Traficon installed 32 VIP-T modules for Automatic Incident Detection and traffic data collection.
Traficon’s VIP-T modules integrate automatic incident detection, data collection and presence detection. Incidents like stopped vehicles on the highway or inverse direction are detected within seconds and transmitted to the traffic control center. By clearing the road as soon as possible, secondary accidents are prevented and lives can be saved.
